Woodville Flock, 50cm x 63cm.
Handmade archival cotton Irish paper, with flecks of sheeps wool with coloured farmers marks and sheep-marking agricultural spray paint.
A limited ‘Flock Edition’ of 90 unique works on Irish handmade paper.
The paper edition is one of the last to be made by the last handmade paper makers in Ireland.
The sheeps wool was collected on sheep-shearing day at my local farm, Woodville Farm in Co.Sligo, Ireland. Each sheet of paper is made by hand and is unique as they hold a different combination of red, blue, purple and green wool. The paper is then sprayed in accordance with how the wool sits on each sheet of paper.
As each sheet is individually made by hand, where the wool sits in each page will be a little different.
The pages feature 4 true deckled edges so they can appear more like the edge of a woolly sheep.
Paintings are posted unframed in a strong cardboard tube
Archival print on Hahnemuhle photo rag 300gsm.
Open Edition
These Christo, Jeanne-Claude like bale stack sculptures are such a big part of the visual landscape of the Irish countryside. Each stack tells a different story about the individual farmer and they range from absolutely chaotic to this very satisfyingly tidy yard in Co.Roscommon. This series looks at these bale stacks from a birds eye view and examines how the bales merge into new shapes which appear to embrace. Farmers marks are often used on the bale wrap to deter birds, and ratchet straps for transport, creating simultaneously inviting and forbidding compositions.
